Mehmet Kerem Özel was born in Istanbul in 1971. He received his Ph.D. from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Architecture in 2004. He has been a faculty member at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture since 1998 and became a professor in 2023.
His academic articles on performing arts architecture have been published in national and international refereed and non-refereed journals, books and symposium/congress books, and his reviews as well as his articles on dance, theatre and opera disciplines of the performing arts have been published in various national and international printed and online theatre, music and contemporary art journals and web portals. He has been publishing his own blog in Turkish since 2008 (www.danzon2008.blogspot.com.tr) and in English since 2017 (www.danzon2017.blogspot.com.tr), where he writes about performing arts and interviews with artists.
He has been a member of the Turkish branch of the AICT/IATC (International Association of Theatre Critics) since 2014.
