Yiğit Günsoy

Yiğit Günsoy was born in İzmir, Turkey in 1976. Günsoy has since a very young boy been very fond of music. He has studied operatic repertoire, history of music, style and theatrical staging.  

Günsoy has perhaps one of the richest personal archives on opera in Turkey. He ran his own radio programme on opera on two different radios for over three years. He has also appeared as guest to various radio and television programs. 

Günsoy has for some years now worked as an Opera critic. He has contributed to specialized reviews such as Opera (Italy), Prima Fila (Italy) and La Rassegna Musicale Italiana (Italy). His reviews covered operas from Paris, Genoa, Montpellier, Nice, Marseille, Monte-Carlo, Istanbul and the Aspendos Festival.  

Günsoy has also worked as an assistant stage director to the well known stage directors both in Turkey and abroad such as Patricia Panton and Vincenzo Grisostomi, Flavio Trevisan, Murat Göksu, Aytaç Manizade, Mehmet Ergüven…  

Not withstanding his busy schedule Mr. Günsoy coaches singers in interpretation, style and repertoire. (In Turkey and in Europe)

He has contributed to all the operas in Turkey with articles and translations for their program booklets. Made translations into Turkish of over twenty operas to be used as surtitles and to be published in the booklets.  

Günsoy, after having worked in Istanbul State Opera and Ballet for five years as a dramaturg, has moved to Samsun and worked as a stage director’s assistant and dramaturg for two years. He is currently working as a stage director. In İzmir State Opera and Ballet he has staged New Year’s Concert and Suna Korad Commemoration Night, A staged commemoration concert Unforgettables of Izmir, A Night in Paris. In Ankara State Opera and Ballet he repeated the Suna Korad Commemoration Night. In Antalya State Opera he staged G.Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio, G.Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and A Night in Paris based on his own libretto and New Year Songs also in Antalya he restaged G.Puccini’s La Boheme's production of Samsun State Opera and Ballet. In İzmir Karşıyaka Municipality Opera Stage he staged an evening Opera in English and excerpts from Carmen and La Boheme. He staged excerpts from G.Verdi’s La Traviata and F.Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine for Ahmet Adnan Saygun Culture Center. For Batumi opera he has staged the concert named Sopranissimo. In Samsun State Opera and Ballet he staged another New Year’s Concert, G.Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera and G.Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. In Mersin State Opera and Ballet he staged G.Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera.  

In 2017 he has worked as vice director and production manager of Samsun State Opera and Ballet.  

He has completed his masters degree studies in Arts Management branch, Yeditepe University İstanbul. He speaks perfect English and Italian and is busy perfecting his French.

His mother-tongue is Turkish.
